This program is offered by invite only to American Heritage students to avoid summer learning loss and become better prepared for the upcoming school year. This research-based remediation program taught by certified specialists will provide intensive intervention through a multi-sensory approach backed by the Science of Reading. Students will establish skills and knowledge to become strong skilled readers. During this time, students are taught content and complete activities that directly teach and provide mastery-oriented practice of the critical skills needed to become a proficient reader. This is an in person class only.

Dr. Jacqueline Leahy+
Dr. Jacqueline Leahy has worked at American Heritage Schools for three of her thirteen years in education. She has worked in the classroom but has focused on creating content and implementing professional development, coaching administrators and teachers, and developing curriculum. She recently completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and has a Master's in Elementary Education and Leadership. She has her state certification in Elementary Education K-6th grade and Reading Specialist K-12. She also holds Orton-Gillingham Instruction, RTI, and TEFL certificates. Soon, she will also have KPEERI certification and Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist Certification.
Christine Colby has been teaching at the elementary level for over twelve years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and Master's degree in Counselor Education from Florida Atlantic University. She has spent the last three year teaching in The American Academy and has a passion for literacy. She believes the most valuable gift we can give to children is a love for learning and knows that all children are capable of excelling when given the right tools and opportunities.
Additional Course Information+
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
