Course Description+
Spanish 5 Honors - Conversational Spanish provides students with an opportunity to practice the fluency and pronunciation of the Spanish language in authentic conversations. Each thematic unit allows students to express ideas when engaged in real-world scenarios while focusing on a variety of topics in a culturally appropriate context. Through virtual field trips and other opportunities beyond the classroom walls, students are expected to incorporate formal and informal language and the appropriate register in conversation. Students will continue to use Spanish to access information in other subject areas enhancing their skills and knowledge of the language.
Prerequisite: Spanish 4
Session dates:
Session 2B: 7/01/24 - 7/19/24 (12:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit - Closed 7/04/24
Session 3B: 7/22/24 - 8/09/24 (12:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
6 weeks course
For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both 'A' sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only '1A' (first 3 weeks)
Meet Mery McNicholas+
Mery McNicholas earned her Master's degree in Teaching Spanish from Rutgers University and her Bachelor's degree with a double major in Secondary Education and Spanish from Rider University. Mrs. McNicholas is an experienced educator and has developed and taught curricula for different levels of Spanish throughout her career. She is a native Spanish speaker from Costa Rica, and she is passionate about sharing her knowledge about the cultures and traditions of different Spanish-speaking countries. Mrs. McNicholas currently teaches honors-level Spanish classes for the Upper School World Language Department at American Heritage Schools.

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
