Students who are working below grade level entering second grade will benefit greatly from our research-supported summer curriculum designed to give individual attention to each student. Basic literacy and math skills are reinforced using best practices and a variety of teaching techniques. Students are also exposed to Social Studies and Science topics. The instructional material is tailored to each student's skill level. Executive functioning is incorporated daily, including study skills, organization, and problem solving.
Melissa Parham is a graduate of American Heritage School who now teaches 2nd grade. She has taught lower school P.E. and Science Lab as well as coached the Varsity girls soccer team. She currently holds an MBA, is certified in Elementary Education K-6, and has been working on her certification in Barton Reading and Spelling (a structured literacy program that is Orton-Gillingham influenced). A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
