This program, for children entering kindergarten, aims at mastery of phonological awareness, phonics and reading comprehension skills, calendar activities, visual patterning, and computational skills by utilizing our research-backed and evidence-based summer curriculum. Students participate in small group activities and individually customized exercises to strengthen identified areas of weakness and strength. Students working at an advanced level are given enrichment activities to allow progression at a faster pace. Students are also exposed to Social Studies and Science topics through literacy.
Randi Licht is a 23 year veteran National Board Certified elementary school teacher. She has a Master's degree in Elementary Education. She has enjoyed teaching Pre-K for the past 12 years. Randi helped design, create, and teach the American Heritage Summer Institute's "Keys to Kindergarten" program. Having attended summer camp as a child and worked at a summer camp or summer school most of her adult life, Randi knows the secret to her students' success is consistent learning throughout the summer.
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
