Course Description+

Middle school students will explore steps in starting a business in this semester-long elective by simulating the process, from ideation to pitch. Along the way, students will learn communication and etiquette skills they can apply in their own lives and will have fun while engaging in critical thinking activities, creating a business plan, and collaborating with peers.

Meet Clavette Phillip+

Clavette Phillip is an experienced educator and she currently teaches Economics and American History. She has 15 years of experience in the field of education, mostly at the higher education level. Clavette holds a Master of Science Degree in Management and is currently working on a dissertation for the completion of a PhD in Education and Leadership. Her goal is to provide students with not only a learning experience through the Pre-Business Society, but also a transformational environment where they can cultivate creativity, innovation, and a passion for the field of Business. She is passionate about helping students plan for their amazing futures and to provide transformational in-class strategies to keep students motivated in accomplishing their goals.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
