Course Description+

Pre-Algebra Honors is an advanced course to develop the skills necessary to be successful in Algebra 1. Topics include, but are not limited to, operations with rational numbers, variables, ratio and proportion, percents, graphs, sets, number theory, properties of rational numbers, equations with inequalities, exponents, evaluation of formulas, coordinate systems, algebraic expressions, square roots, polynomials, and factoring. Students will be exposed to the fundamentals of Algebra 1 during this course.

Honors level classes can expect more rigorous requirements for assignments and assessments.

Prerequisite: “A” in previous math courseThis is a non-credit course. This course is a Prerequisite to Algebra 1.

Session 2A: 6/22/20 - 7/10/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST)

Meet Tanya Maiz+

Tanya Maiz holds a Bachelor of Science in Education K-12 and a Master’s in Educational Leadership. During her ten years of educational work experience, she has participated in roles such as Support Facilitator, Math 6th-12th teacher, ESOL coordinator, and Spanish teacher. She has been a part of the American Heritage School faculty for five years as an upper school math teacher and as part of the math curriculum development team as well as a tutor.

Joseph Judkowitz+

Joseph Judkowitz is a 13-year veteran math teacher currently teaching middle school math at American Heritage School and working with the Middle School Math Competition Team. He holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and an MBA in Finance as well as a Gifted Endorsement. Prior to teaching at American Heritage, he was the Math Instructional Coach at his former school, working with both students and teachers.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.
