Course Description+

Clinical Neuroscience Honors is an advanced course that is designed for students with a strong science background. This course will survey the organization and function of the central and peripheral nervous system at a level understandable to both Pre-Med and non-Pre-Med students. Alterations in normal anatomy through disease or injury, mechanisms of drug action, and clinical application of concepts will be discussed and incorporated into the curriculum each day. Lectures are supplemented by in-class discussion of primary research articles.

Prerequisites: Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry with a grade of B or higher.

This 3-week semester course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Session 2B: 6/22/20 - 7/10/20 (12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit

Meet Dr. Julia Couper+

Julia Couper has been teaching and tutoring Honors and CP Chemistry at American Heritage School for eight years. Prior to teaching chemistry, she earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Virginia, conducted clinical research, and wrote scientific journal articles. Dr. Couper sponsors two clubs at the school, Communiteens (focused on community service and outreach) and Healthy Heritage (focused on living an eco-friendly lifestyle).

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.
