Guitar (Beginning) is an introductory course for students with little or no previous experience reading notes on the guitar. Students will learn proper techniques for picking, strumming, hand positions, reading music notation, chords and chord symbols. The guitar will be used as a vehicle to learn music vocabulary, theory, and music history. Students will develop playing skills, develop repertoire and learn to play together as a class ensemble with the ability to change parts and play both melody and chords. This course requires practice outside of class time. Students will have to provide their own guitar.
This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.
