This course is designed for children entering grades Pre-K3 or Pre-K4 who need remediation to enhance development of language and cognitive and social skills. Focus is on repetition of sound and letter correspondence, recognition of letters, colors, shapes and numbers, strengthening fine motor skills through art projects, and developing listening skills through literature and games. Goals are to build sight vocabulary and beginning reading skills.
Kelly Marrero is from Long Island, New York, where she earned both a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Literacy Education from Dowling College. She has been teaching for more than five years at the elementary level. She taught for Broward County Schools before coming to American Heritage as a kindergarten teacher. Ms. Marrero enjoys working with the younger ages, and her creativity in the classroom helps keep her students engaged and learning.
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
