Video Production Summer Bootcamp is for students that have an interest in TV, radio & film production, business, or communications. Beginning with the basics of digital camera operation, shooting techniques, audio, and lighting, students will practice the production process from live shoot to final edit. Students will use various hardware and an encoding capture card to translate video from analog to digital formats and then use non-linear editing software to manipulate and enhance digital video clips. Students will learn how to develop short form and long form fully produced segments. Students will also develop scripts and storyboards for use in multimedia productions and learn how they are used in the developmental process for computer multimedia-based projects as well as developing and writing storyboards that can be useful to a development team.
This 3-week course is offered for first time credit, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.
Session 1A: 6/01/20 - 6/19/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
Session 2A: 6/22/20 - 7/10/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
Session 3A: 7/13/20 - 7/31/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
3 weeks course
For 0.50 credit or audit the student should only take one session in one specified 3-week time period
Meet Michael Appelbaum+
Michael Appelbaum is a 25- year TV industry veteran who has worked on some of the biggest events across the globe, including as a producer with NBC Sports for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He has held positions as a lead producer and coordinating producer for news, sports, entertainment and non-profit programming. In 2019 his high school broadcast team was awarded the 2019 Regional Student Television Network Broadcast Excellence Award for the high school morning show, 909LiveonStallionTV. Michael graduated from the Mass Communications Program at Florida Atlantic University.
Meet Eric Reid+
Eric Reid, the current Miami Heat television commentator, is a broadcast professional with a career spanning over 43 year. He began his career as a junior at Ithaca College doing play-by-play for the Cornell University basketball team. Throughout the early part of his career, he called play-by-play for numerous collegiate and professional teams across New England, including calling play-by-play for the NCAA and Big East Conference football. He was also an announcer for the University of Miami Hurricanes football, FIU football, and the University of South Florida basketball for various networks including Sportschannel, Sunshine Network, and Fox Sport Sun. However, what Eric is known for most is his work with the Miami Heat. For 29 seasons, he has been the television play-by-play voice of the Heat through their 3 championship seasons (over 2300 games!). With his numerous awards, including 17 Regional Emmy Awards, Eric Reid is one of the longest tenured and most respected broadcasters in the NBA.
Additional Course Information+
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.
