This course teaches the skills students need to become 21st century leaders. Students are encouraged to explore and achieve personal growth, and each student will participate in service opportunities. Goal-setting and team building are emphasized as students create proposals to implement projects. Students will earn 30 community service hours.
This 3-week semester course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.
Session 1A: 6/01/20 - 6/19/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
Session 2A: 6/22/20 - 7/10/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
Each session is unique, so your child will benefit from taking more than one session.
Meet Ann Benedetto+
Ann Benedetto has enjoyed being an educator for 27 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from New York University and a Master of Science from Nova University. She has taught multiple levels of elementary school and middle school and is currently a Dean of Students. For the past 19 years she has shared her love of learning at American Heritage School, where she has supervised both the National Junior Honor Society and the Builders Club. Ann’s greatest joy and privilege has been to empower students to achieve their personal best!
Meet Lara Herrera+
Lara Herrera is a 15-year veteran educator. She has been a member of the American Heritage School faculty for three years, teaching Psychology, Sociology, and other social studies courses. Previously, she taught AP Psychology in Broward Schools, served as the Lead AP Psychology Teacher for the Local Advanced Placement Credentialing Program, and sponsored the Psychology Club (with a competition team). She has also been the recipient of grants from both the College Board and the American Psychological Association for training and travel with students. Lara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and is currently a graduate student in Nova Southeastern University’s General Psychology program and a Teacher Affiliate of the American Psychological Association.
Additional Course Information+
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.
