Course Description+

Environmental Health Honors is an advanced course and will provide an in-depth study of the established principles of Environmental Health and practices. Students will discover the key areas of environmental health and gain an awareness about the crucial role of the environment factors in the health of the planet and all living organisms. Areas of focus will include the role of environmental health in society, environmental toxicology and epidemiology, tracking epidemics and pandemics, environmental policy and regulation, zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, toxic metals and elements, pesticides, radiation, water and air quality, food safety, solid and liquid wastes treatment, occupational health and injuries.

Honors level classes can expect more rigorous requirements for assignments and assessments.

Prerequisite: Completion of Biology and Chemistry with a minimum of an A average for grade level courses or a B average for Honors level courses.

This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Session dates:
Session 2A: 6/22/20 - 7/10/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
Session 3A: 7/13/20 - 7/31/20 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit

Session 2B: 6/22/20 - 7/10/20 (12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit
Session 3B: 7/13/20 - 7/31/20 (12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.) (EST) – 0.50 credit

6 weeks course

For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both “A” or “B” sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only “2A” or “2B” (first 3 weeks)

Meet Osmel Rodriguez+

Osmel Rodriguez has 11 plus years teaching experience at American Heritage School. He has been the Science Department chair for 8 years. He also enjoys coaching the Science Bowl team. His AP Environmental Science students pass at a rate between 97 - 98%, most earning scores of 4 or 5.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.
