Course Description+

Young authors will enjoy this enrichment course that gives the opportunity to write thought-provoking fiction, expressive nonfiction, and cross-genre writing under the direction of highly accomplished writers. Emphasis will be on reading analysis and the writing process with group discussions to help develop the student’s ability to write clearly and compellingly.

Each session is unique, so your child will benefit from taking more than one session.

Meet Mariette Williams+

Mariette Williams is a 15 year veteran English teacher. She holds a master’s degree in English Education. Mariette also serves as the advisor for two high school publications: The Stallion Sentinel, the award winning student newsmagazine, and Perspectives, the award winning literary arts magazine. She also teaches Middle School Journalism, Creative Writing, and Poetry Reading and Writing. In her free time, she advises the Middle School Journalism Club, Live Poets Society, a spoken word poetry club, and she advises the Quill and Scroll Journalism Honor Society

Meet Marianthy Mijangos+

Marianthy Mijangos is currently a middle school teacher at American Heritage School. She holds a BS in Secondary Education with a focus on English as well as two master's degrees-- one in Curriculum and Instruction and one in Educational Leadership. She has been an educator for 19 years-- 15 years in the classroom and 4 years as an assistant principal. Marianthy enjoys watching her students thrive in and out of the classroom

Meet Allison Sepielli+

Allison Sepielli is a University of Miami graduate completing her sixth year teaching English at American Heritage School. She is ESE certified and has experience teaching English for grades 7-11. She is also responsible for creating the Reading and Writing Enrichment Program for grades 1-5 for the Summer Institute and has been supervising the course for the last 5 summers.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.
