Target Students:Advanced students entering Calculus or who have taken Calculus at a non-competitive level Course Format:One five-day week of daily 90-minute lectures with assignments. Course Description: Math Competition Jumpstart Level 3 is an advanced course designed to give a head start to students wishing to enter Calculus at the competition level or wishing to join competition after taking a Calculus course with a non-competition curriculum in order to fill in gaps. The class is one five-day week, with one 90-minute lecture per day and daily Exemplify assignments. Each day will be themed around a topic:
Day 1 - Limits Day 2 - Differentiation: Methods and Techniques Day 3 - Differentiation: Applications Day 4 - Integration: Methods and Techniques Day 5 - Integration: Applications
The pacing of the course is fast, and students will benefit from self-study each day after lecture.
Prerequisites: Previous honors /advanced level math courses
Radleigh Santos, a graduate of MIT, has been the head coach for American Heritage School's Math Competition Team for the past 16 years. He was instrumental in building this program and taking it to State and National Championships. He is an alumnus of and an educational counselor for MIT and has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from FAU. He worked for eight years at the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Sciences, where he was Director of Mathematics and Biostatistics. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Nova Southeastern University.
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
