Target Students: Advanced students entering Pre-Calculus or who have taken Pre-Calculus at a non-competitive level Course Format: One five-day week of daily 90-minute lectures with assignments. Course Description: Math Competition Jumpstart Level 2 is an advanced course designed to give a head start to students wishing to enter Pre-Calculus at the competition level or wishing to join competition after taking a Pre-Calculus course with a non-competition curriculum in order to fill in gaps. The class is one five-day week, with one 90-minute lecture per day and daily Exemplify assignments. Each day will be themed around a topic:
Day 1 – Trigonometry Identities Day 2 – Trigonometry Graphs and Equations Day 3 – Complex Numbers, Logarithms, and Exponentials Day 4 – Matrices and Vectors Day 5 – Conic Sections
The pacing of the course is fast, and students will benefit from self-study each day after lecture.
Prerequisites: Previous honors /advanced level math courses
Radleigh Santos, a graduate of MIT, has been the head coach for American Heritage School’s Math Competition Team for the past 16 years. He was instrumental in building this program and taking it to State and National Championships. He is an alumnus of and an educational counselor for MIT and has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from FAU. He worked for eight years at the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Sciences, where he was Director of Mathematics and Biostatistics. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Nova Southeastern University.
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll. A specific teacher is not guaranteed. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording. Students must be age appropriate for the course. Young children must be supervised by a parent at all times. It is the parent’s responsibility to check with their child’s school when seeking credit for a course.。
